Cadenhead original collection tasting: Tullibarine, Glenrothes, Strathclyde, Tomatin, Dufftown, Deanston

2020.10.14 16:29 WearableBliss Cadenhead original collection tasting: Tullibarine, Glenrothes, Strathclyde, Tomatin, Dufftown, Deanston

So everyone is sad small batch is replaced with a 46% product. The virtual tasting of the original collection did not give a huge amount of insight into the real reasons. Based on what they said it sounds like, they want the authentic collection to remain a cadenhead store exclusive, but the Original collection is a bit wider and also goes to other sellers. It is sort of true that the cadenheads lineup is hard to understand, there is authentic, small batch, but then also the single barrel ones that also come in square bottles. Why are those not authentic collection? What is the difference? It seems this collection creates another half-way between the premium single casks and blending the leftovers. But, the batches become too large, too stable, too available at 46%, it will just be a parallel OB.
If anyone knows any blogposts or podcasts where someone really talks about cask management and why the ranges of companies are the way they are, I would love to learn about that. I imagine it also responds to the idiosyncracies of the Cadenheads stocks and what they find easy to source.
In any case, early 2020 I decided that this is the year where I become dedicated cadenheadhead so I will get to the bottom of this.
Tullibardine 13, 44£
Nice start. This is from the large IB category 'gigatic noname malt factories in refill bourbon' which you can get very often as early teens or early 20s mostly, alongside strathmill, blair athol, linkwood. Nothing wrong with this. Putting against a strahtmil 24 CS I have it seems to be sort of the same but less. I bit sweeter and less malty. Does not make me super excited but I am excited to crack open the Tullibardine 24 I have and compare it to the strathmill 24 or 27 I have, all smatch batch collection.

Strathclyde 31, 94£ My general thoughts on grain: it is too similar overall, I can only sense 2 clusters of the 15ish year old and the 30ish year olds, noone ever talks about distillery differences. Most grain I don't see the point because it tastes like the 35 euro 24yo 'the targe' from LIDL which is my ruthless baseline. I have had 5-10 of these old grains (30 plus) and I have to say this might be the nicest of them all. Why that is we will never know.
Tomatin 12, 44£
A lot of fudge on the nose, very inviting. But the taste and esp the finish do not hold up. One of the lesser ones in this release for me.
Deanston 10, 40£
They made a big deal of the 20% Madeira cask distinguishing this from the OB. Not sure I can agree. This now tastes like a pretty generic highland to me.
Dufftown 10, 46£
By far the darkest. I often think this at IB tastings, that the generic speyside malt factories around 8-14 years just do not have enough to offer without the addition of sherry. Pleasant but just not a lot going on for me.
Glenrothes 23, 101£ The price of this irks me because cadenheads just recently still had single barrels cask strength for 80£ of this. I cannot say that it seems to me that the distillery character of this is fundamentally different to the other speysiders here, but the extra time is the cask surely made it darker, softer, heavier, more perfumy, thicker mouthfeel. This makes me excited about the 80£ CS version I picked up.

It seems covid prevented the inclusion of the Caol Ila, which is a real shame. I bought this tasting set because I thought, to establish this new range, to advertise, they will make the first release really good. Maybe they did, but I am still not compelled to buy any of these or even strongly recommend them. They are all good. The prices are....okay. I imagine this is driven by that they want something in their stores with a lower pricepoint, or just that they have a lot of stock they can shift to other sellers, but I do not really see how this is addressing the whiskyneeds of the very nerdy scene.
If these prices for the 23 year old malt and 30 year old grain mean, that the CS versions will become more expensive, then I am not happy. If the CS versions stay the same price, why buy the 46% if 10 pounds more get you 10 points more abv?
Anyway, now I accidentally got drunk on a 3pm on a wednesday with many hours of work ahead of me. I will also put 2 reviews up of two virtual tasting week tastings soon, the cadenhead and springbank one, couldn't get my hands on the others.

2020.10.13 11:06 youbetterhavetacos 100K Giveaway - Killing Eve 🔪🩸 ❤️

Killing Eve Moodboard
As soon as I saw this giveaway challenge I knew that I had no choice but to attempt an homage to my absolute favorite show of all time, Killing Eve. Trust me when I say you NEED to watch this show! It’s worth it for the fashion alone but everything about it is incredible. Murder! Intrigue! Badass women! Killing Eve has it all!!
While Carloyn’s impeccable ensembles could easily merit a moodboard of their own, the sartorial star of the show is unquestionably Villanelle. From the moment she rocked up to a therapy session in a voluminous pink tulle Molly Goddard dress with Balenciaga boots in season 1 I was HOOKED. My love of Villanelle knows no bounds. I aspire to be the kind of extra that goes to a perfumier and asks to smell “powerful” for a confrontation on a bus with the woman I’m obsessed with and also tried to kill. My new life goal is to (metaphorically) kick a bitch on to the subway tracks wearing a crazy printed Halpern suit and Simon Miller platform boots. I dream of being so fashionable that I’m approached by an Instagrammer only to tell them that no they can’t take my picture and to “get a real life” (peep the beautiful Celine Luggage bag making an appearance here!). Perhaps most inspiring in the current quarantine times is that Villanelle takes her loungewear seriously with a swoon-worthy collection of silk robes and pajama sets. She is unapologetic and dramatic and dressed to perfection at ALL times. I’m not counting the very unfortunate crocs moment out of respect. As much fun as it is to drool over her incredible wardrobe it’s really her “no fucks given” attitude that makes her such an icon to me. She truly lives and dresses for nobody but herself and THAT is the energy I’m striving to live my life with.
And now moving on to the moodboard portion of what is quickly becoming an actual love letter to Villanelle! Her style has obviously caught the eye of the fashion world and there are plenty of sources that detail exactly what pieces she is wearing in the show, so I wanted to go in more of an “inspired by” direction with my moodboard. Please note that I SERIOUSLY underestimated how hard it is to make a moodboard that is anything other than just pictures of her actual outfits because Villanelle is a perpetual MOOD! She dresses for the occasion and appreciates a good “costume” while on the job so her style goes to all sorts of extremes, but her go-to looks typically include bold prints and colors, exaggerated silhouettes, and menswear. I’ve chosen to focus on my two favorite “genres” of Villanelle looks: statement suits and voluminous dresses. While these seem at first glance to be very different styles, I think they both speak to her love of theatricality. She is frequently seen in flat shoes like boots or oxfords, so I’ve included my embroidered Gucci loafers as the rep item in this moodboard. They have a very similar vibe to an embroidered velvet Chloe jacket she wore (which I’m DYING to find a good rep of) and they’re a practical option for a busy assassin on the go while also being flashy enough to satisfy her sense of style.

SUIT OUTFIT
The color of this suit is absolutely STUNNING! Combined with the luxurious fabric and wrap waist detailing on the trousers, this definitely feels special enough to be a Villanelle outfit.
DRESS OUTFIT
My ode to the iconic pink Molly Goddard dress, combined with a slightly darker feel reminiscent of the incredible Alexander McQueen couture gown she wore in season 2.

2020.09.26 01:06 BlueJelly23 I got invited to a threesome, only to be teased and denied all night.

So this is the time I was cucked... Is that the right word? I don't even know anymore. Anyways, that's not importnat. Last night I got teased, denied and I wimpered so bad, but I am still buzzing and flowing from it. It's a long one, so grab a drink, and come enjoy my very eventful last night.
some backstory, me and my Daddy have been talking about inviting another person into our little play sessions. I've expressed the interest mainly and he's always brushed it off. that was until yesterday.
In the morning, I made Daddy coffee like I always do. I gave it to him at his desk and asked him what he was doing today. He said the usual and thanked me for the coffee. I smiled and started to go do my chores for the house as I usually do. Before I left however, he whistled to me. "before you go, I want you to wear your little strapless dress tonight." he said with a sip.
"My... dress? Are we going out?" I asked, puzzled, but excited.
"What? No. Somewhat. I've found a girl online. I've invited her over" he said.
"A... a girl?" he asked, a little more puzzled than excited. "what does--"
Before I could finish my sentence, Daddy waved me down. "You've always been on about inviting someone over to our little play sessions. I thought you'd be happy for her."
"No, I am. I just didn't know at first." He said with some more energy now that I was fully aware. "Is she cute?"
He simply took another sip and nodded. "Very. You'll love her. Which is why I want you to make a good impression on her. She's all safe and good. It'll be fun." He put his cup down and continued with work.
I stood there, smiling like an aboslute dummy for what felt like ages. I finally snapped to reality and go on with my chores. I was so excited for her. I asked Daddy so many questions, desperately pawing for more information. All I knew before hand was that she was cute, and adventerous. Sounds promising?
That night, I got read. Clitty: Caged (As usual) I was given the extra small one tonight and it was a bit tight. I did ask why, and he said it was for a more gentlier appearance. Hard to argue with that. Make up: Set. Matching bra and panties: you bet! Little black dress: rocking! I was so excited I could barely keep myself together. It wasn't until Daddy held me and told me to stay I really calmed down.
And then, the door bell went. I looked at the door, suddenly a lot more nervous and anxious. Good nervous and anxious, like when you go shopping, or are taken to Disneyland. Frozen until I felt a hard smack on the ass which pushed me forwards. "Go on then, let her in. I bet she's freezing." I rushed to open to open the door.
She was very beautiful. I looked like a toe next to her because of house stunning she was. She entered with a smile and a gentle brush of the feet. As she walked past, I caught her perfume and it was wonderful. She clearly came prepared and was ready. I helped her take her boots and jacket. Daddy gave her a tour of the place and I lagged behind offering refreshments.
I was told to go wait in the bedroom. As I walked, I heard her laugh. It was very harmonic I have to be honest. I stood where I usually stand when waiting for daddy. Up against his desk opposite the bed. I was so fidgity, I could barely keep still. I did my breath exercises and traced my fingers on his desk to form a heart to relax myself. It wasn't long till they both came in.
They smiled and Daddy sat at the end of the bed, looking at both of us. I didn't realise at first... probably because she was wearing boots when she walked in, but she was a fair bit taller than me. Regardless, she stood next to me and smiled. We properly introduced and she commended my dress. I was so embarissed giddy, I tried to compliment her but it came out all wrong. Daddy corrected me.
She then opened up to Daddy and asked if we should "start". He gave a swift nod and leaned further back. She turned to face me and we both giggled. She did a couple of breaths and asked me if I was ready. Bouncing with nerves, I answered yes.
We kissed. And yes, it was beautiful. Don't get me wrong, I am still Daddy's special little gurl, but this just felt different. She was strong and controlling in all the right ways, but it was completely different from all the other girls I have kissed. It was perfumy, it was fragrent, soft and gentle on the lips. In a strange way, I found myself pulled in more and more. Perhaps it's because it's different.
We kissed for what felt like a long time. I pulled back a couple of times to check on Daddy, to see whether or not he approved, he liked, and to know I was doing a good job. He was pleased. She brushed my hair past my ear and it gave shivvers down my spine. The longer we kissed, she was became more controlling of the situation. She would rock my head back, pulling at my hair causing me to gasp, which allowed her to push her tongue inside me, teasing and taunting.
At the time, this felt like playful light Domme/Sub play, something I'm used to. I would raise my hand to stroke her hair, or attempt to brush it past her ear, but she was very committed into keeping me in place. After a few minutes, she pulled out, smiled at me and then smilled at Daddy.
"So then, Daddy" She started, "Anything there please you?" She stood next to me, coy smiled and proud. I was a little shocked at first, but It was best to play along with it I felt. After all, If I'm honest, I was deeply enjoying it and excited to know what came next.
"How about you both kneel down, continue with what feels natural." He said with a smirk.
"Of course." she replied.
She then brought me down to my knees and she kneels before me. She returned to kissing, but this time she was alot more controlling. She started to pull at my dress to reveal my tits. She smiled and started pawing at the bra and kissing tentatively. I was heaving in my cage, I cannot express how tighter it felt. Eventually, she pulled it all the way down. I gasped at the shock and the speed of it all. There I was, kneeling before this effectively strange woman in my bra and panties. She reached down between my thighs and found my clit. She gave it a shake and smiled as I blushed.
Before I could really protest, I found her tongue in my mouth again. She was after something. She moaned, and I moaned. I gave a peak to see Daddy who was resting against the bed, stroking himself through he jeans. I tried to pull away to get him involved, but she didn't have any of it.
"Such a antsy little thing you are." she purred into my ear. Once again, I blushed. "Just relax. He's happy with what he sees. Just enjoy the ride". I took a deep breath and nodded. "Good." she whispered.
She then stood up and pulled away the dress that was around my ankles. My hands were fidgity, but I remained composed. She turned to face Daddy, and started to take off her clothes till she too was just in her bra and panties. She wiggled her booty for a few seconds into my face before finally pressing it into my face and laughing as she did so. Again, I was shocked, but very much enjoying it.
She grinded her ass in my face, moaning sweetly. Before finally turning around, leaning over me and grabbing my mouth. This was like a light switch. Where she was controlling but somewhat submissive and gentle, here she was all controlling, all domme. She pinched my cheeks together with one hand leaving my mouth open.
"Stick out that tongue. Do it. Do it now!" I did without hesitation. She spat on my tongue and squeezed tight. "Don't you dare close that mouth. Don't you dare swallow till I tell you to. Understand?" She barked. I gave a very futile nod.
She let go and I sat there, looking at her with my tongue out, starting to drool like a dummy. She turned back to face Daddy, took off her bra and lowered her panties thrusting her asshole into my face. "Lick it little bitch!" she yelled. I raised my hands up to press onto her cheeks for support and to spread, but she didn't care for that.
"Hands by your side!" she ordered, pressing her ass deeper into my mouth. I obliged. And then, in the softest voice, "How's the view, Daddy?" I couldn't see, but I heard footsteps coming towards us. I heard soft moaning as he approached her, followed by the sound of kissing and giggling. "I love it!" he said allowed. I moaned.
She then grinded her ass on my face for what felt like a long time. Only pulling off to allow me to breathe and for her to spit on my face. At one point, she grabbed my cheeks together and said "Such a good ass slut, aren't you?" She forced me to nod my head. Mocking my voice, she added "I want more mistress." before laughing and sitting on my face again.
While she was grinding her ass, I felt Daddy walk around to me. At first, I didn't really acknowledge what was happening. He was moving my feet together and my hands together, but it wasn't until he walked away I realised that he cuffed them together with the desk leg between the link and my body.
she then pulled off my face rather quickly, and I leaned forwards. Breathy, I looked at them. They stood together, sadistically smiling at me. She gave a slight wave and wink. I looked behind me and I was indeed trapped. My legs were on the floor, shackled together around the horizontal leg bar of the desk, with my hands wrapped tight around the desk leg. I was very restricted.
I looked back at them, but then I saw an all to familar sight coming towards me. My ball gag. Before I could do anything, it was pressed deep into my mouth pushing my head back. I moaned so pathetically.
"Wait. Stop." She protested. Daddy turned to look at her. "What's the matter?" he asked. With a little think, she smiled and started to walk forwards. "Missing one thing. Mind if you take the gag out?"
He removed it from my mouth and I gasped. She then for the last time pinched my cheeks and spat onto my face. Not directly into my mouth, but straight up onto my face. She then rubbed her pussy for a bit and rubbed it on my face before sticking her fingers far into my mouth causing me to gag. After what felt like a really long time, she pulled them out and rubbed all the juices together on my face. The moment she pulled her hand off, the gag was latched in my mouth hole and locked tight. She cleaned her hand on my hair.
I looked at them for a bit, rushed with deep humiliation as they both smiled and laughed at me. "So pathetic!" she chuckled. "I know." Daddy responded. "oh look, she's leaking." She said pointing at my panties. I winced and tried to close my legs. They both laughed.
I then saw Daddy pick up one of his lifting weights from the floor and tie some of our bondage rope around it. Putting it on the floor, I felt the rope snake it's way across the desk and tight onto my gag pulling tight so I couldn't look down, just straight at the bed. No looking away, no getting out of the sight.
He then clapped his hands and he then took her to the bed where they had passionate, loving sex for what felt like hours. I could do nothing but sit and watch. Whimper and moan. Leak and squirm. Sometimes I would moan when she moans and I would be told, very swiftly, to "shut up" by Daddy.
After a long while, they both came and she looked far to pleased and satisfied. She rolled around in the bed for a bit, giggling and glowing. Daddy came over to me, cock directly in my face. It was wet from her juices. I started whimpering. "You wanna suck it, right?" I gave a very pathetic whimper in want. "Aww. Poor baby." I heard him say.
He then leaned down, and untied my wrists and ankles and the rope from the weight. He pressed he against the floor and gave my ass a hard slap before ripping off my panties, which were very wet. "Bad girl." he whispered into my pressed head. He then undid the gag from my mouth, and allowed me a full breath of air before I had my panties shoved into them. He held my face before whispering, "you sleep outside and on the floor tonight. Go on, wash your face and get to bed. The panties should stay in your mouth till the morning." I whimpered and moaned in protest. He then finally grabbed my face and said, "She takes her coffee with a pinch of milk and one sugar. So you know for the morning." before scooting me out the door like some told off puppy. I heard more giggling from inside.
After that, I did what I was told. Washed up, and curled up not able to stop thinking about what happened, and wanting to relive it very much again.

2020.09.18 04:55 Mommychoochoo Finally received my first haul!

I received my order (ordered 9/3). I ordered 2 candles and a ton of wax melts so I can try them out.
Candles:
Perfect Day: Holy moly I love this one! I’m so happy i chose this to get my first large jar. It is a bit perfumy and feminine. I get the warm patchouli. Super nice!
Pure White Sands: Fresh and clean, soapy, oceany. Love this one too!
Melts: (do warmed smell different than on cold, like candles?)
Exhilarating Pineapple: Straight fresh juicy pineapple. So mouthwatering!
Soft Linen: clean laundry scent.
Warm and Welcome: Warm soft vanilla cashmere.
Let’s Stay Home: I am surprised by this one. It’s a somewhat warm fruity cozy smell. A little soapy.
Bright Bubble Bath: Why does this one smell like fruit candy?? Lol I was expecting soapy.
Crunchy Leaves: Omg this smells like Xmas time hallmarks/craft store! I had to take a sec because the smell was very familiar. Cinnamon is strong.
Day in the Sun: I’m disappointed by this one. I thought this one would smell like suntan lotion(COCONUT) but it smells like flowers/jasmine. Is it the orange blossom I’m smelling? I don’t like this one at all.
Pile of Leaves: I do get the scent description “Fallen Leaves, Autumn Air, Apple Blossom, Citrus, Soft Pine, Sandalwood, Cedar”. It’s outdoorsy, warm, citrus/fruity.
Beach Vibes: I wished this could be more The Beach perfume. It’s heavy on the floral to me.
Cozy Home: I was most looking forward to this one because of the reviews are so good. But ick. Don’t like it. It is heavy on coconut which i like, but the rest reminds me of a granny’s home. Seriously. I was impatient and ordered the large jar of this coming in the mail. Uck. At least it wasn’t expensive. :(

Overall I’m super glad that I ordered the small melts first(except Cozy Home). I am surprised that I didn’t like so many, because they all had glowing reviews.
I will definitely be repurchasing: Perfect Day, Exhilarating Pineapple, Soft Linen, Warm and Welcome, Let’s Stay Home. The others are meh or no. I will have to melt them at least once to try it out anyway. Maybe it’ll smell differently once melted?

2020.09.18 04:04 LeSurrealisme Reviews of Poesie's "Miss Behave" Collection!

I was completely drawn in when I heard Joelle of Poesie talk about the initial 5 scents in her "Miss Behave" collection--it was clear that she had put a great deal of thought into each perfume. I had never tried Poesie before, but I figured that this release would be the perfect time to do so. I wanted to support a woman who was celebrating strong women from history!
I ordered the collection sample set, and Poesie included a free sample of Whisper Your Bitter Things. Joelle also thoughtfully included a Miss Behave Collection bookmark that she wrote a personalized note to me on! I really appreciated that lovely touch!
About My Preferences -- I enjoy smelling sweet. As long as there's a sweet element to a perfume, I tend to get along with a fairly large number of notes. Notes that I don't really care for include lavender, black musk, patchouli, clove, pine/fir, and vetiver.
About My Process -- I allowed each of these to rest for about 2 - 3 weeks, and tested each one on a different day. I slathered a decent amount of oil on each wrist. For my favorite ones (Emmeline Pankhurst and Komako Kimura) I proceeded to liberally slather in the crooks of my elbows and the sides of my neck after giving them initial time to rest on my wrists. I have a perfume journal that I jot my thoughts into in real time. I didn't consult the notes before I tried them, as I wanted to experience each scent with a limited number of preconceived notions about it.
So, without further ado, on to the reviews!
Emmeline Pankhurst -- Black tea swirled with vanilla cream, cold rain on stone, soft linen, cozy musk.
Emmeline Pankhurst (1858 - 1928) was an English Suffragist who was arrested multiple times in her devotion to her cause.
In vial: Sugary, milky iced tea with what strikes me as citrus, though not exactly Earl Grey. Does evoke a cool feeling.
Wet on skin: Smells "perfumy", elegant, and expensive. Still chilly, as there's a slight "biting" aspect as that I find hard to identify--perhaps the cold rain on stone. The tannic black tea is the most accurate black tea note that I've yet found in any blend from any house, and it's beautiful. I love this. It definitely evokes what it's intending to--cold English rain falling into strong, sugary black tea.
Drydown: The cozy vanilla cream and musk.
Ida B Wells -- velvety red rose, plum, smooth golden amber, jasmine sambac, royal sandalwood, nutmeg.
Ida B Wells (1862 - 1931) was an American activist, journalist, and Suffragist, who became famous by investigating and exposing the horrors of lynching.
In the vial: The perfume smells expensive and elegant. Slightly sweet, and a bit aldehydic.
Wet on skin: It's very similar to the way that it smells in the vial. It's well-blended, so difficult to pick out individual notes. Still nicely sweet, but not what I would call sugary or gourmand. Not really floral, either, though it contains both rose and jasmine.
Drydown: Sweet aldehydes. Later on, golden notes of honey (in retrospect, probably the smooth golden amber) come out. Unfortunately, this completely disappeared after about 3 hours.
Concluding thoughts: I am very pleasantly surprised by this fragrance, as I was fully expecting it not to work on me. Usually, if a blend contains any rose in it at all, it's all that I can smell on my skin. This scent is the only exception to that I've ever encountered. The amber seems to dominate for me, which isn't really a surprise, because my skin loves amber (thankfully, my nose does, too). I suspect that this one will become even more complex as it ages.
Komako Kimura -- Sweet tart yuzu peel soliflore with notes of green and a sparkling floralcy.
Komako Kimura (1887 - 1980) was a Japanese Suffragist, actor, and magazine editor.
In vial: Sugary, candied, slightly floral citrus. It reminds me of my beloved Honeysuckle Lemon Curd by Haus of Gloi, except that the citrus here is obviously not lemon.
Wet on skin: Much less sugary, though still sweet. The citrus is deeper and richer than in the vial, as if now incorporating the zest of the yuzu. It also comes across as musky and sultry. The floral element is still present. The sillage is by far the best of any of the perfumes in this collection.
Drydown: The scent becomes juicier and sweeter; at times, I get a burst of grapefruit-like scent.
Concluding thoughts: I love this one with all of my heart. It's definitely a sister scent to Honeysuckle Lemon Curd, with yuzu rather than lemon. I love how the scent moves inward, from the zest of the yuzu while it's wet, to the sweet juice in the drydown. It doesn't last long, but that's to be expected since it's entirely citrus.
Sojourner Truth -- Charred pipe tobacco, vanille accord, warm cardamom, ambroxan.
Sojourner Truth (1797 - 1883) was an American abolitionist, women's rights activist, and orator.
In the vial: Sweet tobacco.
Wet on skin: Still sweet tobacco, and the uncanny aroma of a shoe store. Really, that note is amazingly spot-on, though there's no leather in this blend. There's nothing that smells smoky or charred yet.
Drydown: Sweet campfire smoke. Sadly faint.
Concluding thoughts: I'm very curious as to where the Eau de DSW is coming from here. It isn't really what I want to smell like, but it isn't a bad aroma.
Zitkala-Sa -- Juicy apple, butterscotch and caramelized vanilla, rosewood, cedar, sweet clover.
Zitkala-Sa (1876 - 1938) was a Yankton Dakota activist, journalist, and writer who founded the National Council of American Indians.
In the vial: Crisp apple and tree sap/resin. The apple is, indeed, a fresh, juicy Granny Smith, not cooked. I also detect a bit of evergreen.
Wet on skin: It's sharp and woody, like evergreen tree sap. The apple is an undercurrent, freshening the scent up, but from the background. On my skin, this is not an apple fragrance.
Drydown: Very similar to my beloved Haint, by Arcana, which is vanilla, white musk, and pepper. It is very faint in this stage, though, and my nose really has to be close to my wrist to smell it. It only took a couple of hours to fade this much.
Concluding Thoughts -- Every scent in this collection was a winner. Each one was composed with true artistry. My favorites were definitely Emmeline Pankhurst and Komako Kimura, both of which I doused myself in with no apologies. The only consistent downsides were the wear time and the strength/sillage, which were uniformly poor on my skin. My strong suspicion is that these issues will be eliminated once Poesie switches their base oil from rice bran to fractionated coconut.
Thank you, Joelle, for these beautiful tributes to some amazing women.

2020.09.13 22:40 ElizabethOfThyLilies Rose and cinnamon perfume (or other indie products) recommendations

Hello all!
I recently got to try Querida from Sixteen92's Halloween collection. The notes are: Blood red roses, Ceylon cinnamon, smouldering resins, sensual golden amber, and an ethereal swirl of opium.
I fell in love with the fresh rose and cinnamon combo. There was such a unique contrast between the incredibly fresh, yet somewhat robust rose note and the earthy and slightly spicy cinnamon note. The problem with Querida as a scent overall is the ambeopium notes. Amber notes are challenging for me as they always tend to dominate a scent unless there's a lot of other powerful notes that help to balance everything out. That's pretty much what happened here. The ambeopium combo took front stage upon dry-down and made it a much more...mature perfume than I was hoping for, while that beautiful rose and cinnamon combo were pushed back behind this cloud of a m b e r.
But I cannot get this scent combo out of my head! The combo (minus the ambeopium) was just phenomenal, and I want to try to find a more isolated blend of just rose and cinnamon.
Here is my main issue. A lot of rose scents I try end up not being that fresh, "I'm sticking my face into a bouquet of roses" smell and instead go fake, perfumy, or even plasticky on me.
So does anyone have any recommendations for perfumes, or any other indie products, that have fresh rose and cinnamon as the main notes?

2020.08.23 16:36 de__profundis A not very cohesive collection [F30]

Hello fragheads, I've been a lurker for some time but Show & Tell Weekend is such a fun concept I thought I would share my collection with you guys:
Balenciaga by Balenciaga: a very elegant composition that I sadly rarely wear. Fell in love with it when I first smelled it but I guess it isn't very me. A great scent if you want to appear polished, I wish the patch was less present though.
Tea Tonique by Miller Harris: I though it was divine in the shop and I do like it but somehow I never reach for it.
Ambre Gris by Balmain: This has apparently been discontinued, it reminds me of Gaultier 2. A gorgeous, sophisticated and somewhat unisex scent. Can't imagine wearing it outside of Winter though and I often feel too underdressed to really pull it off.
Poirier d'un Soir by Miller Harris: I first have to preface this by saying that I love a good pear note. I bought it because it felt very close to Mojave Ghost by Byredo, although stronger and boozier, which I sadly cannot wear as my SO hates it (but somehow doesn't mind PdS too much). A great comforting scent for Autumn and Winter.
CK2 by Calvin Klein: Loved it at first but the wasabi note is very prevalent on me. An incredibly unique scent.
Sun by Jil Sander: A failed blind buy. I was expecting something a lot lighter and beachier, but it is actually quite cloying and doesn't read summery at all to me. A lesser version of Pi by Givenchy imo.
Reveal by Calvin Klein: Another failed blind buy! The description and notes were right up my alley, but there is something about it that bothers me which I can't quite point out. I guess I was after something less heavy.
Chance Eau Tendre by Chanel: One of the very few perfumes that I've ever repurchased. I simply adore it, although I wish the longevity were better!
Tiger's Eye by Urban Outfitters: This is perfect for Autumn. A cheapie with a pretty good performance and suede, oakmoss and sandalwood notes. Love it.
Oysho 1 by Oysho: I think this might be a dupe for Santal 33 but I actually much prefer this...
Naughty Alice by Vivienne Westwood: A sweet powdery treat. Lovely.
Fig Fiction by And Other Stories: A creamier Philosykos.
Wood Sage and Sea Salt by Jo Malone: Oh how I adore this scent. A walk on the beach in windy and overcast weather. A perfect composition for me, but sadly it is gone in a flash. Performs slightly better on clothes.
Noa by Cacharel: One of my most worn scents. It always feels right and never overwhelms me. 100% inoffensive. Comforting like a warm embrace.
White Tea, Bergamot & Freesia by Korres: A very natural smelling composition. I like it but it's nothing to write home about.
L'Eau by Kenzo: A nostalgic aquatic. Perfect for stormy weather. Love it but I don't think I have the best chemistry for it sadly.
Sui Dreams by Anna Sui: Another blind buy. A soft, powdery, vanilla sweet with an innocent quality.
Fico di Amalfi by Acqua di Parma: A fresh, uplifting citrusy green fig with a slightly creamy base. Perfect for summer but terrible longevity.
Beach Walk by Maison Margiela: If only this was less of a white floral! I loved it when I bought it but realized it sometimes gives me a headache after a few hours. Such a shame.
You by Glossier: Love this. A fresh, musky laundry smell. Really smells like skin in the best way possible. Wonderful for people who aren't into very "perfumy" scents.
Bronze Goddess by Estee Lauder: One of my most worn scents in Summer, but performs quite poorly sadly.
Dolce & Gabbana Pour Femme: Raspberry marshmallow galore! Absolutely mouth-watering delicious.
CK Be by Calvin Klein: The type of scent I feel most comfortable wearing, but again this doesn't last very long.
Alien by Thierry Mugler: A 3-note wonder. Mesmerizing solar jasmin. I only wear it on nights out as I feel like it is wearing me in more casual environments.
Hypnotic Poison by Dior: A play-doh vanilla with a bit of a mothball quality... I know this doesn't sound super appealing, yet it is probably the sexiest scent in my collection.
L'Impératrice by D&G: I feel like most women own this somehow? Fresh, fruity and flirty. Poor performance because otherwise it wouldn't be fun, right?
Contradiction by Calvin Klein: Honey + steel + Nivea cream. Great in Autumn.
Ultraviolet by Paco Rabanne: One of my favourite scents ever, it feels out of this world. It smells futuristic, I know it sounds silly, but it just does.
Baby Doll by YSL: A tart, fruity scent. Lovely but doesn't last very long.
1881 by Cerruti: An incredibly well blended scent. It smells like a feeling of comfort and happiness. You feel safe from harm when wearing this.
Les sorbets de Bella by Nina Ricci: I don't like the regular Bella as I find it overly sweet and cloying, but I got this flanker as it was recommended as a decent dupe for the sadly discontinued Liberty Fizz, which is my favourite scent in the whole world. It smelled promising in the bottle, but it lacks the famous tomato leaf note that made LF so special.
Nina by Nina Ricci: I used to wear this in high school and was gifted a new bottle. Kind of smells like a candy apple.
Tam Dao by Diptyque: One of the best sandalwood scents. Peaceful and introspective. Love it. Some might find it a bit too masculine though.
Stella by Stella McCartney: A wet, regal rose. Classy, sexy and intoxicating. Can be dressed up or down. A winner in my book.
Edit: Fixed a billion typos as I wrote this in a rush on my phone, ha!

2020.08.09 19:30 adder_r I’ve just tasted fermented cauliflower and it was awful.

I got a cauliflower from the greengrocer’s last week and decided to ferment part of it. The raw cauliflower tasted great so I figured it can only get better with fermentation. In the same way that I like cabbage but really love sauerkraut.
https://imgur.com/gallery/MYiXzie
The fermentation went on for six days and it was eagerly supervised. I didn’t have a single appearance of mould, yeast, or so much as a fruit fly in the vicinity of the jars. This morning I put the fermented cauliflower in the fridge to eat with dinner later and, so much for my excitement, it tasted horrible.
The texture was fresh and crunchy but the flavour was sort of perfumy, with a distant hint of coriander. There was something very off-putting about it. The odd thing is that I liked the smell of the fermented cauliflower but definitely not the taste. And I really do love sauerkraut, I’m borderline addicted to it and have it with my dinner every day.
Lesson learned! Fermentation is a ‘try it on for size’ kind of game.

2020.08.08 01:05 cerebralfeast Y'all it's time for Kyse to get more recognition (KYSE REVIEWS)!

These were samples purchased by me, in EDP format which - disclaimer - I have almost no experience with. However, the scents all sounded too tempting to pass up, as there are tons and tons of gourmands, which are definitely in my wheelhouse. They were given 3 weeks of rest.

Initial application: I’ll be honest, I’ve never smelled a cupuaçu note before, but google tells me its a nut/butter that smells slightly like pineapple and chocolate. I definitely get small wafts of that here. It’s very alcoholic smelling at first, but this being the first EDP I’ve tried in forever, and holding my personal preferences for oils, it could just be my hypersensitive nose. This is very sweet, reading way fruitier than I would have thought for a caramel and praline scent. Lots of pistachio up front, but the caramel becomes the bigger player here, and it lends a slight buttery quality which deepens and grounds it.
30 minutes in: It mostly just smells like a generic gourmand mainstream sort of fragrance, with all the notes blending together so well I can’t pick anything out but foody SWEETNESS.
Throw: Minimal
Color: Light sage green & khaki
For people who like: Smelling like a fancy business lady out to brunch in a pair of HUGE white retro sunglasses, a black floppy hat, and a classic LBD; Bath & Body Works type mainstream dessert-y scents.
Verdict: 3/5 It’s not outstanding but it’s a solid, easy to like gourmand, and I’ll likely finish out the sample.

Initial application: Thick white flowers and sweet coconut. The lush tiare flower is reading a bit more southern magnolia to me, probably on account of all the other creamy notes in this one. It’s very tropical, super sophisticated, and relaxing all at once. The tonka butter, cream, and coconut pulp together are reminiscent of sunscreen but don’t scream it. This one is straight up LOVELY.
30 minutes in: I can’t stop sniffing my wrists and being transported somewhere exotic. This smells like walking along the beach in a super flowy white skirt. The notes blend together so perfectly, and I was able to smell it on myself hours later, even after taking a dip in the pool!
Throw: Moderate to Strong
Color: Light yellow & aqua
For people who like: Chilling out on a gorgeous Mexican oceanfront resort on a perfect day, wearing a breezy caftan with a tropical drink in hand.
Verdict: 5/5 take me on a vacation right now please!!

Initial application: Dark, buttery, chewy caramel goodness! A hint of saltiness, which could be from the butter or ambroxan. Not getting a ton of the other notes - it reads very much caramel. This is absolutely delectable, a purely rich gourmand.
30 minutes in: It seems to dissipate quite a lot over time, and morphs away from that lovely caramel opener. The lemon comes out a bit MORE now, which is unusual for a top note. This, plus the other background notes seemingly taking the forefront, propels the scent away from what made it so good initially. Bummer. Despite all that, it’s still a well-crafted scent.
Throw: Moderate
Color: Light brown & muted gold
For people who like: Secretly nomming on a square of salted caramel as a midnight snack, hidden under a cozy blanket.
Verdict: 3/5 if it had more staying power in that first buttery stage, it might well be FS-worthy. For now, I’ll just finish the sample.

Initial application: This was a freebie, not chosen by me. Rich, boozy honey and dark musky fruits. Wafts of lovely jasmine breeze on through. This is somehow both dank/musty and bright at the same time. It has heavy influences of mead rather than a syrupy honey, and the tonka/sandalwood combo lends itself super well to giving it a warm woody background.
30 minutes in: Husband describes this as the best honey note he’s ever smelled. I don’t totally agree with that sentiment but it is DAMN good, and if he likes it, I’m happy to wear it. Fermented fruits laying in the sun are what lingers after the dry-down.
Throw: Moderate to Strong
Color: Light orange & dark maroon
For people who like: Touring a winery in late summer when the setting sun warms the giant oak barrels leftover from the vineyard, and the surrounding landscape takes on a hazy, dreamy quality.
Verdict: 4.5/5 this is masterfully done, and reminds me of my vacations visiting meaderies. Definitely FS-worthy!

Initial application: Herbal French lavender and a deep, woody sort of darkness! This isn’t powdery or sleepy lavender either. It’s developing a slightly sweet, balsamic quality that is positively entrancing. I’m getting almond(???) and some cookie and for that reason it’s reading very “crunchy lavender macaron with jammy blackberry filling” to me. I fucking love this.
30 minutes in: The wax and blackberry decide to come out and play more, and the scent turns a bit plasticky. Both lend to the depth and complexity of this scent in the beginning. but I wish they had stayed in the background! Gimme more of that lavender almond cookie goodness!
Throw: Minimal to Moderate
Color: DARK purple & light blue-grey
For people who like: Partaking in a mid-morning snack of fancy macarons in France after a leisurely stroll around a quaint village, then retiring to a chateau in the middle of a fresh lavender field.
Verdict: 3.5/5 but had so much potential to be a big winner in my book! Alas, I will finish the sample and probably nothing more.

Initial application: HO. LY. SHIT. This is gorgeous and rich and deep and complex. It smells like a vanilla flavored oat milk latte, with a creamy almost chewy quality (what I imagine gnawing on a raw vanilla bean would be like if that wasn’t in actuality a totally buckwild and frankly inadvisable idea). It’s very roasty and decadent, and a bit boozy. Not at all bitter, but definitely smoky.
30 minutes in: This is a grown up vanilla, a vanilla for people who want to love gourmands but can’t. A vanilla for people who want to love vanillas but can’t. A perfect transition from mainstream perfumes to the world of indies. I honestly can’t get enough of it!
Throw: Moderate to Strong
Color: Medium greige & charcoal
For people who like: Going on a shopping spree for high-end clothing, with freshly manicured nails and a latte in hand, feeling like a million bucks; and everyone who walks by you and catches a whiff is dying to know where that incredible smell is coming from!
Verdict: 5.5/5 I’mma FS this immediately.

Initial application: BOOZY AF chocolate with a touch of patchouli earthiness to ground it; this is very rich and sugary. It’s almost too much, since the booziness is borderline headache-y. Or maybe I just have a headache. Luckily it calms down quickly, and I can start to get some graham crackecookie vibes. It’s still a bit bitter in this stage, a bit alcoholic, and a touch powdery.
30 minutes in: Husband and I just now realized “Oui Plus” must be an exact translation of “s’mores” in French. Adorable! But the scent doesn’t live up to my wildest dreams and expectations. I had high hopes for this one, as I desperately continue my search for the perfect deep, dark, delicious s’mores scent - one that isn’t boozy or overly sweet. if you’ve got suggestions, lay ‘em on me PLEASE. Or, y'know, maybe I'll come up with something myself... ;)
Throw: Moderate to Strong
Color: Dusty copper & dark brown
For people who like: The WHOOSH of sugar-blasted air that comes from opening the doors to a candy/fudge shop at a theme park.
Verdict: 3/5 might destash, might keep, dunno how I feel about this one.

Initial application: A gorgeous milky note - clearly thinner than cream with almost a hint of mint coolness to it. Glorious dried fig, down to the crystalline sugars that naturally form as a shell over the fig. Doesn’t read as Fig Newton though, as bready/cookie nuances are nowhere to be found.
30 minutes in: Sandalwood becomes prominent, and milk and fig come together to create a cozy yet “cool” scent. The fig starts turning the tiniest bit bitter, and somehow rehydrates into real, fresh, juicy mission fig. I can see this scent mixing well with something like a honey solinote, but as is, it’s very light and fresh while still putting up majorly comforting vibes. A cuddly gourmand that’s never too rich or sweet or cloying.
Throw: Moderate
Color: Dark coral & ivory
For people who like: Strolling around a sunny farmer’s market in Italy, choosing the most plump figs you can find and then going out for delicious vanilla gelato.
Verdict: 4.5/5 it’s a lovely, simple sort of scent that’s just incredibly well-blended! Def considering a FS.

Initial application: Weirdly sour-syrupy dark fruits right out of the gate, which made me scrunch up my nose because I wasn’t expecting a scent quite so tart, like fermented fruit. I’m getting dark plum and some citrus, with a hint of effervescence. It has a celebratory quality that screams “let’s get wine-drunk on patios!”
30 minutes in: This is basically sangria.
Throw: Moderate
Color: Blood red & royal purple
For people who like: Late night garden parties in New Orleans during Mardi Gras with plenty of red wine, fairy lights, and jubilation.
Verdict: 2.5/5 not for me, but excellent if you want to smell like someone who unironically wears “it’s wine-o-clock somewhere!” t-shirts.

Initial application: I’m getting perfumy chocolate, definitely sophisticated and sexy and dusky. Despite having many typical gourmand notes, this is by NO means a foody scent. It blossoms heavily into dark florals backed by vanilla, and as such has a mainstream appeal.
30 minutes in: Generic sexy perfuminess. Dark, mysterious, glamorous, a little powdery, but luscious nonetheless!
Throw: Minimal to Moderate
Color: Darkest black & plum purple
For people who like: Creatures of the night, with their bright red lips, huge ass wigs, long pointy nails, and sequins for daysssss.
Verdict: 4/5 this is another one I can easily see being sold in department stores, and a great example of how talented indie perfumers can be!

LOVED: Cocco Tiare, Miele, Fumee Vanille, Fichi e Panna
LIKED: Praline au Caramel, Douceur Brûlée, Frollino Lavanda, Oui Plus, Mandorlo Cioccolato
DESTASH: Benjoin Vanillee

FINAL VERDICT: Kyse fucking SLAPS, yo. I cannot believe it took me so long to finally try this house, and I have a new respect for EDPs. Even the ones I gave lower ratings to were insanely well-crafted and enjoyable, they just weren’t personally my thing. Their prices are insanely low for the quality you receive, and with sample packs available, there’s no reason not to at least give them a try. I feel like I’ve been missing out, but no longer!! This house 100% deserves more hype, and I’ll be going off to buy my full sizes now thank you very much.

2020.07.11 03:08 prontofronto What’s a crazy dish you want to see infused?

A lot of recipes on here look fantastic, but a little too simple. Lots of cookies, brownies, chocolates and gummies, but I’m looking to experiment further. Throw some delicious dishes you love to consume un-infused, and I’ll have a go at making whatever I feel inspired by. Don’t hesitate to send me simple stuff, as well as very complex recipes. I’m a chef and love a challenge!
I have coconut oil I’m looking to use that was infused with mainly forbidden fruit, so it has a super floral, almost perfumy aroma. I’d love to do very savory dishes, but to me it smells like it’ll work better with sweet dishes, complex appetizers or mains that could bring that strong floral note out instead of trying to conceal it. Although I now wish I infused olive oil instead, an infused summer salad with stone fruits or citruses would’ve been fantastic!

2020.06.20 00:28 WearableBliss Foursquare Velier judgment day, de-sulphuring Hereditas, Appleton vs El Dorado

So recently I made a post in which I asked, what is the deal with Foursquare Velier, it is 3x of the price of ECS in the UK. What is up. I have a Patrimonio for a special occasion but I can't bust that one open yet.
So the suggestion was to buy samples, which I am totally against. I will not pay a 2-3x markup per ml, and definitely not in a bar. At master of malt I bought some that were cheap (4-5 a sample) because some are good value, and I want some of those nice sturdy 30ml bottles.
Anyway, surprising, rhum attitude in france has the best prices for samples I have seen anywhere. For the more expensive bottles (100-150 euros) I think their markup per ml can be 40% or less, depending on the bottle. So I ordered 11 samples and got one for free even (8 yo Diamond 43%).
First downside: cheap bottles. These cannot be re-used. Bummer.
I have taken a bit of a break from rum so to get back into it I will start with a sample that has always had a question mark on it, and it is El Dorado 21. I had it in a fancy restaurant and loved it, but didn't want to buy a bottle because they add sugar. Now sipping it in the afternoon right before a bunch of zoom meetings, I have to say, it is not as classy as I remember it being in that expensive vancouver sushi restaurant. It is too fake-sweet, I expect a longer finish. I appreciate the muted funk. To me funk is a bit like smoke in scotch, something you can get addicted to in young spirit, and the ultimate class if it fades and matures over 2 decades in the cask.
So let's turn it into a tasting by comparing it to the Appleton 21 I also ordered (I promise the rest is all Velier): Surprisingly similar, the biggest difference is that all the sugar is removed. Much dryer on arrival and finish, a good hit of oak. I expected more funk.
These two beg to be compared, abv, age, price (price is identical in france (100) and 90 vs 140 in UK, wtf). They are very close for me, I think I will find more in the Appleton if I give them more time. The sugarless integrity choice anyhow. With a bit of time I think the Appleton clearly takes it. It makes me happy that there are consistent, available options.
Off to the main act.
I am PUMPED now to get into the Velier releases I was able to order:
Principia and Plenipotentiazrio were the only Foursquare Velier releases I was able to secure
Then: Royal Navy Tiger Shark and Royal Navy LMDW. I would usually never buy bottles with so little info for so much money. Mount Gay Last Ward Habitation Velier and a 22 month of Clairin are the Veliers in the 'other' category.
Plenipotentiazio vs 2005, blind
I was able to guess which one the Velier is because I know 2005 well, but also because it is smoother and more muted. It has the perfumy part of the oak that Pappy also has and reminds me a bit of BTAC in general. Maybe because I also never owned a full bottle of btac, I drink it in a different frame of mind. 2005 has a bigger hit of flavour but also is harsher. Fuck I think it is clearly, but narrowly better. Maybe 10% better for 3x the price. 2005 makes you take breaks and get used to it a bit, Pleni P. is like liquid icecream that you can just drink until it kills you. Will I buy a bottle? Probably not but I am pumped I have the whole bottle of patrimonio.
This confirms a little bit my impression that Foursquare is like buffalo trace, it can produce a very cheap bottle and it can produce a highly expensive product, that are produced in the identical way, the difference is the barrel selection (not what barrels to put the spirit in, but which ones you after the fact select to bottle). From the enormous stock, cherry-picking the barrels that turned out the best after 10+ years makes a huge difference. My suspicion is that the main dimension of selection is smoothness actually, yeah, I said it.
When people say the pappy of rum they mean the hype, but I think it is true in two additional ways too.
Principia vs Hereditas, blind
First of all my hereditas is a sulphur bomb, Imagine having a nice sherried foursquare on the edge of a vulcano. I have put 100ml in a small bottle and added copper wires for a week to oxidize the sulphur. I predicted the wire would turn black, but the wire stays clear and now there is a fair amount of residue in the flask.
So in order to give the Principia a worthy opponent, we first need to do
Hereditas raw vs Hereditas post copper wire treatment, blind
So the biggest issue is, that the copperwired Hereditas remains cloudy even after filtering it through a very very fine sieve. I can immediately tell which one got the treatment. Yes, less sulphur, great. But its weird, sour, tastes a bit like pennies, terrible mouth feel. Reminds me of when I butter-washed bourbon and I didn't like the result. So, a waste of 100ml of hereditas. But, the original is still too sulphury to really enjoy. Maybe the next step is to oxidize it heavily.
Hereditas raw vs Principia, blind
I can immediately tell which one is which. No sulphur, great. But if pleni P is pappy, Principia is a older Knob Creek store pick. There is the same perfumy note again, but the whole thing is hotter and there is a woody note that strikes me as off early. Sipping Principia and Pleni side my side makes me feel like doing bourbon tastings, to me, it is never about how the bourbons distinguish each other positively, but just about their flaws that differ, wood notes that are too much like resin or harsh and dry. Those tastings are not nearly as fun as single malt where I think they can differ more in positive and specific notes that set them apart.
So, Velier Foursquare, mixed so far. Unlike ECS these are not blind buys for me I think. For this price it needs to be either consistently subtly better, or really in a different league. I am now worried the Patrimonio will be too much like the Principia.
All of this was done in a bit of a rush, I am glad the samples are 5cl so I get a bit more time with these, without the blind comparisons. Overall, what this exercise did was cure me a bit of my fomo and rum fever, and this feeling that I am passing on these rare black bottles and will regret it in the future. Good stuff but not on a different plane of existence. I think what I really want to taste is foursquare, aged in scotland in a refill cask for 20 years.
PS: the clairin tastes like these herb-encrusted goats cheeses, damn that is weird

2020.06.18 17:37 tasteslikechikken Your favorite boring (dumb reach) fragrance

Good fragrances can be boring. It doesn't mean you don't love it, but its just a great dumb reach for when you just want to smell good.
My favorite is Prada Infusion d'Iris. Such a boring scent that I bought 200ML's of it. This has always been the "I just want to smell good without thinking about it" scent, my "not perfumy and thats fine with me" scent. And probably outside of a few scents, the one that most people love on me. Plus, it will last ridiculously long time...long after even I personally notice it.
In fact, today I'm wearing it and when I went outside briefly in the humid air it just blossomed...a straight up love when it does that!
Whats yours?

2020.06.10 13:13 PerryPattySusiana Artisan Perfumier Amber

I've just 'discovered' Artisan Perfumier's Amber .... I've actually had it for a fairwhile, but have only recently actually given it a run-out ... & I must say I'm extremely impressed by it: in a review in of it in Fragrantica , it's described as an 'old books' type 'fulme'; & I agree totally with that ... & find it a particularly excellent instance of that type.
My curiosity as to what their Himalayan nard 'fulme is like has been piqued now: some say Himalayan nard is somewhat like galbanum , which I do love in a 'fulme.

2020.06.04 15:07 throwaway981932920 A rant about my family and how my dads ex-girlfriend put perfume in my beer

I just have to get it off my chest, so it might sound like I'm rambling but here we go.
Back in 2008 I moved to another country to study, but even though I was planning to return back to my home country after 3 years, I stayed abroad - got a job... a few jobs... and had been living there since. I try to visit my parents every other month or so as Ryanair is super cheap. My parents got divorced in 2016 and to be fair, the bond with my family has never been strong. I just travel back for the weekend to visit them and my friends, and to stay in contact
Back in the day when I was a youngster, we had a lot of issues in our household. My sister was very violent and would for example throw hot tea at you if she was angry. Or she would throw my dad's laptop out of the window if the printer didn't work. She even accused my dad of rape one day, which was a total lie. To the outside world, she is a sweet, lovely girl and everyone likes here... until she gets comfortable with you.
Obviously this caused a lot of issues with between my parents, and after my sister moved out for a bit to live with my uncle (I was already abroad), they decided to call it a day as they realised they had nothing in common besides arguments. My sister was later thrown out by my uncle because of the arguments they had.
I can be quite sarcastic and like to make jokes, which my sister absolute hates. She hates it even more when my mother laughs at my jokes. On NYE in 2016, we were at my uncles house and I made another stupid joke about my uncle's TV and my sister got really angry and started shouting. This was the final straw for me as I already (deep inside) blamed her for the divorce so i vowed never to see my sister again now my parents were divorced anyway. I kept this up for 2 year, but then decided to reach out again as my mum said she was a changed person and she my sister after all. I now see her once in a blue moon when I come over, and the relationship is improving.
Now both parents live their own lives, my sister lives back with my mother and I lived abroad until last week. My mum has been dating and my dad found love too. So much so that she moved in with him and obviously I was happy for him.
I kept visiting every other month and often slept at my parents house (where my dad now lives). It went well, at leats I thought so. However, my dads new girlfriend didn't appreciate my behaviour. Everytime I visited, at the end of my visit my dad would walk my to my car and say "son, you said something to my girlfriend and she didnt like it". "oh what did I say"... "it doesnt matter, but please dont do it again". There were never details, so I found it hard to not do what it supposedly offending here if i dont know. I do know that saying stuff like "Oh yeah, I havent eaten pizza for 9 months, whilst I ate it last night", annoyed her, so I tried not to do that. To be fair, Im not sure why I say that kind of stuff because it's not even funny, I suppose its just to lighten the mood. She saw this as lying.
Coming last year, I had a week off so decided to spend the week with my dad and his girlfriend. She started getting very "mothery" telling me what to do - bear in mind I'm 32. Once there was nothing on TV, so I suggested that we could watch some series they liked on catchup and watch next week's episode. She responded: "NO WE DONT DO THAT IN THIS HOUSEHOLD!!!!"... and my dad added, "no we don't do that here". I'm like, okay, but it was just a kind suggestion, no worries. Stuff like this kept happening. Another day I was going to eat with friends, but she was cooking food so I thought I'd be kind and say "oh that looks very nice. As I mentioned before, I wont be joining you for dinner but Id love to try a little later"... thinking I could then complement her on her cooking. The response was " YOU EAT HERE, OR YOU DONT EAT HERE!!"
- you get the idea
After getting shouted it for the 50th time for no particular reason I decided I had enough and I walked out to go to my mate. In the end I came back to talk it out with her and my dad and I thought that would be the end of it. I tried visiting a few more times, but less often as I did previously because i felt less welcome than I used to.
Anyway, back abroad I was living my own life and all went well, so well that I won a reasonable amount of money (not huge, but a nice amount) which I decided to share with my friends and family. I took my mum to a trip to Asia and I bought my dad a new TV, Ipad and phone because that's what he always wanted.
A few times after this I visited my dad and things got uncomfortable. Everytime I had a new gadget or new shoes my dad would say "Oh I'd love those, can I have them". My dads girlfriend started speaking less and less to me, and in the end she was just completely ignoring me. At the last visit, I came over for his birthday and had a beer... another one, took a sip and my dad said "oh I want to show you something upstairs." We went upstairs and I said "oh btw, I should receive a gift from someone on this address- did you get anything for my by any chance?" (local stuff got sent to my dads address sometimes, it was pretty normal). "No, we didn't". "Oh, they should have sent a box of chococlates". My dad started laughing out loud and said "oh we thought that was ours, so we ate it. we didnt understand why they would send it to us anyway lol". I wasn;t happy, but what was done was done so we went downstairs, I took another swig of my beer and noticed an awful taste - very perfumy.
My dads girlfriend denied putting anything in my drink, but it burned in my throat and couldnt get rid of the taste for a good few hours. I had enough and stormed off. I stayed with my friends and said that I didnt want to see her ever again. Long story short, eventually she threw him out - but initially he took her side until her realised I didnt want to come back.
Moving on, because of Corona I decided to move back to my home country. My mate offered me a place to stay, but I thought Id try and fix the relationship with my dad so I took all my stuff and moved in with my dad. I had loads of surplus things like an electric hoover and label makers, tea towels etc... stuff I don't need as Im planning to travel in a month or so. He was like, oh can I have this and I was like yeah sure.. you can have this as well if you want. You get the idea...
The second day I'm with my dad and I walk to the kitchen he says "oh yeah, now you are working from home you'll be using more electricity so we'll need to talk about the bill."
I was pissed off - eveytime Im there I buy him pizza and replenish his fridge and he never even offers to chip in, not that I want him to - but a gesture would be nice... and now I havent even plugged in my computer for 3 seconds and he wants money? WTF!

2020.04.19 03:10 Warpz_II Bees.

Bees. Swarming buzzing bees. Tickling temperamental bees. Bees with pointy painful stingers. The boy poured honey down his back and shook his buttocks left to right. The naked crazy boy. He passed by the beehives, jogging not running. Taking his sweet innocent time, through the grass, toward the white perfumy clover field. The bees rose in a fuzzy brown boil, filtered out their hive, cleaved the air like an arrow aiming for honey-dripping bare-bummed Johnny. Little Johnny boy smiled broad and white, his feet advancing toward the clover, tossing his hips from side to side, breathless voice issuing forth, "Beeeeez. Zzzzzzzhahahahahaaaaaaaa." Little Johnny boy slipped a finger between his perspiring crack, taking away honey as if from the stale edges of a white bread sandwich. Johnny loved the bees, almost as much as the sticky sweet clinging of honey that formed and hung like stalactites from his perineum, dripped dripping drops. The bees closed in. Thousands of bees, their murmuring buzzing chorus titillating little Johnny boy, stingers angry and shining in the sun, quivering mad. Johnny jogged toward the clover field, licking his finger of the sweet sweaty honey. Honeybuns, Johnny thought, and laughed until he fell rolling over the start of clover. Honeybuns, thought Johnny, and he laughed, giggled, a smile playing over his bare freckled puss. "Beeeeeeez!" Johnny exclaimed, as a fuzzy buzzing cloud converged on little Johnny's honey sticky ass. The sun rolled in golden fury, and hours later, when it had turned a dark red, and sunset swollen, little Johnny boy lay stiff and puffy, pink and happy, dead stinking sweet.

2020.04.13 20:00 kahlex Possets Valentine and Spring Retour Reviews

I don't see a lot of reviews for these, so hopefully these will help someone out. Possets generally lasts pretty well on me (4-6 hours, minimum), and my skin tends to eat fragrances. I love florals (especially rose), but I try not to buy only rose fragrances (I don't always succeed at this).
Valentine Retours
1000 Roses: High centered blood red hybrid teas, tiny baby pink polyanthas, stately grandifloras (yellow), English roses with quatrefoil cups and subtle apricot color.
I don't smell all of the individual roses, but it smells like sticking your nose into a bouquet of fresh roses. I don't think it goes powdery or old lady at all. I really love Possets' rose scents. A must try if you love roses!

Aspasia, Mistress of Pericles: Osmanthus, (simulated) ambergris, amber.
An osmanthus perfume! I must try it! Unfortunately, I was only able to smell ambergris and amber. I contacted Possets about it, and was told it only contained a small amount of osmanthus. Disappointed, but they offered to replace the bottle. I set this aside and waited for about two months, and I still only smell amber.

Bouquet in the Snow: Osmanthus, primrose, luan wood, tea
Another osmanthus perfume! I must also try it! Am I just nose-blind to Possets' osmanthus note (possibly primrose, too)? I just smell wood and tea. I don't hate it, but I was hoping this would be more floral.

Rhett and Scarlett: “Confederate” jasmine, dark red rose are sweet as sugar, a drop of Northern violet (as a tribute to Mr. Butler), and a bit of spilled sweet tea.
I worry a little about jasmine notes. I like jasmine, but it can be really cloying or it can be too musky and veer into cat pee territory. This jasmine combines nicely with the rose and violet and is just a beautiful floral. Not at all cloying. It smells fresh. I don't smell any sweet tea, but I'm still perfectly happy with this perfume. It's kind of like Roses are Red, Derry Derry (review below), but with jasmine.

Roses are Red, Derry, Derry: Roses and violets
I read stormywhethers321's review on this perfume, and I just had to buy it. I agree; the two flowers are perfect together, and it definitely smells like lifting fresh blossoms to your face and inhaling. If you love roses and violets, you should definitely try this one!

The Kiss: A creamy floral arrangement including the sweetest tuberose, honeysuckle, and a drop of gardenia then all brought together with a delightful infusion of sandalwood and a tiny amount of cedar.
Possets' site describes this as "a tremendous bouquet in a sandalwood vase," and I agree. I can't really pick out the individual floral scents (every once in a while, the gardenia pops out, but it's otherwise pretty homogenously "floral"), but it smells like flowers and sandalwood.

Victoria and Albert: The rose of England, the resins of India, with the woods of Germany.
I only smell wood and resins. The rose is completely lost to my nose. Disappointing for a rose lover.

Spring Retour

Goodness: Perfumy bergamot is combined with glorious rosa damecina trigintepetala (Damask rose), and a hint of rare Australian sandalwood (which is not endangered)
Another rose perfume? What is wrong with me? I need to stop! In this case, though, the rose is completely hidden behind the bergamot and sandalwood. The bergamot is bright and cheery, and it's really uplifting.

Opulentia: Peach and carnation, a bit of crystal musk and a very small amount of ginger (just to mellow this out and not to play anything like a major role in it).
Juicy peaches and spicy carnation! I usually see carnation combined with spicier notes, like cloves or cinnamon. The carnation here is a beautiful contrast to the juicy peaches and the combination is so gorgeous. The two notes bring different things to the table, but combine beautifully. It's juicy, floral, and a little spicy. I highly recommend this one for anybody who likes both notes.

Portrait of a Lady: A combination of lovely cupped old roses and modern florist’s roses combined with that unique scent of wet stone for balance.
I know, I need to stop with the roses. True to the scent description, this smells like roses and wet stone. It makes me think of sniffing roses while next to a lake with a rocky shore. The wet stone gives a slight aquatic edge to the roses and makes them more "outdoorsy" or "in nature," instead of roses carefully cultivated in a garden, if that makes sense.

Solid Gold Bangles: Light pomegranate syrup combined with a golden sweet musk, a hint of sandalwood for a serious base note, and pear.
Someone here described this as "summer in a bottle," and gave it such a glowing review that I had to try it. They were correct. It smells so fruity and happy, without being cloying.

Terra Diurna (The Earth in Daylight): The scent of warm red shiny strawberries flirts with the fragrance of pinks and the two hues flirt with each other as well. A slight bit of greenery and a sparkle of water completes this olfactory sketch of the delights of the beginning of the growing season.
I think the scent description is a bit vague. It smells mostly like strawberry preserves to me. There might be some of those other notes in there, but I don't really know what pink smells like.

The Queen's Strawberries: The most luscious strawberries are served with clotted cream flown over from the Cotswolds.
This smells like delicious strawberries when wet, cream on the drydown, and strawberries and cream when fully dry. I was a little worried the cream might go sour on me (started going a little sour while drying), but it dried down beautifully. It reminds me of Strawberries and Creme Creme Savers (anyone else remember those?). I regret that I didn't buy enough of them to keep the product alive, and for that reason, this scent is, for me, tinged with sadness. But still so delicious. There are no more Creme Savers, but there is this perfume, which I guess is lower in calories.

Tulipomania: Tulips.
This does indeed smell like tulips. It smells like both flower and stem. It's very pretty, but I feel like it's kind of incomplete somehow. Like it's a bouquet of flowers with no vase, or something like that. If you like tulips and tulips alone, this is for you.
