2017.05.14 08:25 clearliquidclearjar WEEKLY EVENTS 5/14 – 5/22

Sunday the 14th is Mother’s Day. I’m not going to list all the brunches, but they’re everywhere. All the free roses a mother could ever want. Take your mom out.
This is a thing that is happening on May 27th: Steven Universe Trivia Spectacular and Microconvention. If you hear “We” and your brain goes, “are the Crystal Gems!” you should probably be there.
Tally’s Independent Cinema and Theater Offerings:
ALSO:
SUNDAY 5/14
  • Black Dog on the Square: Cyclofemme for Everyone. “Each year on Mother’s Day (US), self-led bike rides around the globe unite riders, regardless of gender, age, ethnicity or bicycle preference to ride together, support one another, encourage women on bikes and to build stronger, more connected communities. This year we are riding to Wakulla Springs together, to celebrate and honor all the women in our community who lead, who encourage, who participate, who support, and who lift up others, as we all work together to build a stronger, more sustainable community. We invite everyone who is a woman, identifies as a woman, loves a woman, and supports women on bikes to join us for a beautiful day on the bike! Everyone is welcome!” 10am
  • Golden Acres Ranch (Monticello): 11th Annual Mayhaw Berry Festival. “North Florida residents and visitors, join us for this year's Mayhaw Berry Festival! Bogart portrays Philip Marlowe, a private dick hired by a wealthy gentleman with two beautiful daughters, one having gambling debts among other problems and Bacall, the other sister, trying to help her. William Faulkner is among three credited screenwriters and the plot, like most film noir, gets more and more complicated with each passing minute. Howard Hawkes direction, the chemistry between Bogart and Bacall, along with the excellent script all make for one of the great film noir examples from the forties. Sit under the moon and stars and try to follow along at Patio Theater! Next week, A Touch of Evil followed by Kiss Me Deadly.” 8:35pm/21+

2014.05.21 16:46 SgtFourleaf Advice/experence requested: devils river, tx. T-storma in forecast

Hi folks, I'm looking for a second opinion and hoping maybe someone has some experience on preceeding with a river trip in an arid region that had a high chance of t-storms in the weather forecast.
For the last 2 months, Ive been planning an unguided 2.5d/26mi trip over memorial day wknd for 6 experienced guys to the devils river out by Del Rio, TX. the desert climate has been in a prolonged drought for years and a forecast of t-storms has caused me to worry about flash flooding and get cold feet.
With the way things have been, theres a huge chance that the storms will be nothing more than lightening and thunder and no rain will fall over the tributary. Im not asking anyone to predict the weather, but does anyone have any experience with kayaking in bad weather in west TX?
We dont have permits to the parks and our outfitter has us camping overnight on islands in the river. He says it has to rain 2-3 in to see any kind of rise in the river butI have no context on this. All of us have been out to the Rio Grande before but it'd be our first time on the devils.
Any comments or thoughts are highly appreciated, I feel like the obvious answer is to reschedule but I know it'll be really tough to get our group out there again.
